Madrone Tree Bonsai - bonsai treeHowdy, Growing in the Northwest Pacific, in addition to Doug Fir, two trees that really captivated me were the Vine Maple and Madrona. I moved in the middle of Europe in 2011 just when I first heard about Mirai, Lucky me! Anyway, I searched for bonsai examples from Doug, Vine and Madrona. There were none until Ryan, Michael Hagedorn and perhaps some others finally started to styling them and bam in 2013 Google was blessed with a new range of examples of Doug fir bonsai, as well as examples Vine maple that had me beam. There's still a species that I think deserves some attention, maybe it's not suitable for container life as some have told me but maybe if someone can find it and create a group of Pacific coasts planting or even a single tree, it's Mirai. Does anyone have any experience with Madrona and someone else thinks this slowly disappearing tree could be a fantastic example like bonsai? I'd be interested in having your thoughts. I wasn't sure where to put this theme either, so I put it in design. Happy spring! Thomas I started with about 100 seedlings about 25 years ago. He planted the last one on the ground a few years ago. Whatever I drag, he failed, luckily he only experienced a dozen or so. Most of them were never rooted. It started in 4" boats and would move in an increasing size. Many were up to 3 gallons and spent at least 10 years on them. The trees stayed pretty small (less than 1 metre) and were easily pruned. They were deeply rooted (they had to water frequently). They had trunks of 10 cm, fast ribbons, twisted and liters like. One that I often see and care for a customer is in a 25-gallon ceramic container. He probably got into it 10 years ago. Try from time to time and the overall care of the plant in pots, less the root pruning. I don't expect to change the pot. Beautiful trunk, and bark (orange / red and good hair). Surprisingly few leaves and easy to grow., They were very interesting and many people would comment on how beautiful they are. I would agree and say, if available try to grow, simply do not root prune. I hope this helps. ere never root prune ere never root pruneGerald, thanks for your answer, it seems that they should be rare in reality. I had no idea that they are so sensitive with their roots, maybe that's why there's practically no existence like bonsai. I have nothing available to me here just wanted to get some entry from everyone in Mirai if this is a species worth looking closer and possibly finding some nuances about this beautiful tree. Do you have any photos? It would be great to see Arbutus Menziesii is also one of my favorite trees too! I have one in my garden now that I'm trying to establish, as well as one currently in a 20-gallon container. Hello Alemon, that sounds great. Do you have photos and have you tried some bonsai technique, etc? Hello ThomasUrban, I've been experimenting with the cultivation of a madrone in a container for now. I haven't tried any bonsai techniques. I'm just trying to see how well I can keep one in a container for now. I'm really just trying to learn for now. Impressed through this thread interested in arguing arbutus menziesii as bonsai. Very interesting! Here is one of the poster plants and the thread link. I thought I'd start publishing my findings on this enigmatic tree. First of all some photos to strengthen my credibility as I'm sure of what I'm going to say... Madrone Pacific Experiment #1Go to page I wanted to see if some of the techniques I've been successful with in Manzanita would work with Madrone. I like to start with material for young children. Deputys I haven't had trouble rotting or repotting Arbutus around here. I grow Irish strawberry - Arbutus unedo y fresa canaria - Arbutus canariensis. Both seem quite happy with the reduction of the root and both will be shot from naked wood. Root rotting in early spring here, but I guess it would be nice too sometimes. Hey, Arcto, any news of how your madrone was driving the winter? Some place of leaf when everyone approaches the winter It's fungus, right? I just made my first chlorohalonil spray (Daconil) all over the courtyard. Deputys Any updates on this one? Did this crop season go well? It was good. Putting a new growth. A leaf place that these always seem to have. He dragged him out the end of the summer and removed him last week, as he didn't want to scare. Rewire will put him in the greenhouse for the winter.
