5 Essential Oils for PMS and Menstrual Cramps - Organic Aromas
Can essential oils relieve my menstrual cramps? Does it work? For centuries, people have used essential oils to treat a variety of conditions ranging from headaches to acidity. Today, these powerful vegetable oils are gaining popularity once again and more people are becoming non-traditional treatments. The essential oils of the plants emit an odor to provide aromatherapy. Essential oils can also be applied to the skin after diluting with a carrier oil. Essential oils should not be swallowed. Some are toxic. Although most of the medical research supports oils as aromatherapy treatment, few reports have found that they can be useful in other ways. This is what you need to know about the use of essential oils to relieve menstrual cramps. Essential oils are commonly used in skin care products and some foods. They are also recognized as powerful aromatherapy tools to relieve stress and anxiety. Few oils, however, really have enough clinically significant research to support their use as a medical treatment beyond aromatherapy. If you investigate the research that has been conducted, you may find mild support to use these oils as alternative therapies. These essential oils can be useful for treating menstrual cramps: LavenderThe use of lavender oil as aromatherapy massage oil can greatly reduce the pain and discomfort associated with menstrual cramps. In a nursing student he used lavender oil or a placebo paraffin product to determine whether the essential oil had any benefit. Students who used lavender oil reported a significant reduction in cramps. CinnamonCinnamon can be more famous for its culinary uses, but aromatic spice has been used for centuries in alternative medical treatments. It is known that cinnamon reduces inflammation in the body. Massaging the lower abdomen with essential cinnamon oil can help reduce inflammation and symptoms of menstrual cramp. Oil Combinations Combining more than one type of essential oil can be beneficial. Researchers used a combination that included lavender, sage and marjoram oils. The oils were mixed with an odorless cream. The study participants received instructions to massage the cream mixture into their lower abdomen from the end of their last period until the beginning of their next. Women who used the cream with essential oils reported less pain and discomfort during menstruation than women who used synthetic oils. A examined a combination of oils from: These oils were added to almond oil. Women in the study were instructed to massage the oil combo in the abdomen. This study also found that women who used essential oils reported less pain and bleeding during menstruation than women who used placebo treatment. If you are looking to use essential oils to relieve menstrual cramps, massage oils in the affected area is considered the best approach. Add a few drops of your preferred oil to a carrier oil. The carrier oils are neutral oils that will help stretch the potent oils and facilitate application and use during a massage. Common carrier oils include: Massage a small amount in your abdomen once a day at least a week before the beginning of your period. Before massage the entire lower abdomen with these essential oil products, apply it first to a small area of skin. Wait at least one day to see if you can have a reaction. If you experience any irritation or discomfort, you should not use the oils. If you do not, it is likely to be safe to massage the entire lower abdomen with the product. Even though your doctor is not prescription this treatment for you, it is always a good idea to let your doctor know what treatments you are using. Alternative treatments may affect the prescription treatments you are using. Let your doctor know everything you are using so that they can see interactions or possible problems. The most common treatments for menstrual cramps include: Pain relievers Both free-sale pain pain pain relievers (OTCs) and prescription pain pain relievers are often successful in treating menstrual cramps. You can start taking a low dose of painkillers a day or two before your expected menstrual start date. This can help avoid painful cramps. Keep taking the pills two or three days in your period, or until the cramps stop. RestSome women find relief from painful menstrual cramps simply resting. Being active during the first days of menstruation can worsen cramps. Keep a normal schedule as best you can, while also let your body rest. Hormonal Birth ControlBlood control is not only for women who are trying to prevent pregnancy. Birth control can also help reduce menstrual cramps. In some cases, birth control can prevent menstruation as a whole. If OTC or birth control options are not relieved of your symptoms, consult your doctor. They may recommend a prescription-forced medication. If you're interested in treating your menstrual cramps with essential oils, consider these tips: Finding a Reliable Supplier The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate essential oils. The FDA lists the essential oils that are "generally recognized as safe," but do not inspect or test them for purity because they do not make any claim for treatment. For this reason, it is important that you find an oil company you trust is supplying you with pure oils. Many of these oils can be expensive. Do not lose your money in a cheaper product. Do your research Once you find an oil you trust, it's important that you feel comfortable using the product. Find a therapist or talk to your doctor about the proper use of these oils. The store or website where you buy your oils should also have a trained professional who can help you and answer your questions. Beware of side effects Because essential oils have not been widely studied, certain side effects may not yet be known. If you start experiencing something unusual after using essential oils, stop using the product. Contact your doctor and examine what might be causing the problems. A few years ago, I didn't feel that way. I would be the first to give a ibuprofen for headache or head to the doctor in the first signs of a cold. I didn't really care how I felt better, I just wanted what was happening to stop. The same was true when I had my period, accompanied by cramps that had bent me in pain. I just wanted them to stop. If you've ever experienced, I know you feel me in that. It feels like your uterus is betraying you (and enjoying in secret). It's the worst. One day I spent the night in a friend's house and my period started. Of course he did (you can't see me but I'm rolling my eyes right now). My cramps began to appear in painful waves but I didn't have free selling painkillers. Zero, Zilch. Obviously I felt like I was going to die. But my dear friend who has always been known for your curiosity said, Someone told me that you can use essential oils for . I have something. You want to try? At this point, I didn't want to try. I didn't want to be suffering all night either. So the essential oils came... and worked. At first I thought everything was in my head, some kind of placebo effect. I had to be sure I used them in the next few months for basically everything. Headache? Essential oils. Dolor's back? Essential oils. I put them in my skin, in the bathtub, and even in my tea! Preview now, and I am. I don't think I have to replace Western medicine but can complement more traditional approaches. So for all of you who are feeling the pain of fluctuating hormone levels and a cranial uterus, try to use these essential oils to relieve your period pains. (There is much more EO that works for this, but I chose the most common / easiest to find.)1. Lavender essential oilThis is my absolute favorite because it can treat so many problems. First, it has anti-inflammatory properties. When your uterus is trying to shed your inner coating, it contractes and expands to push it through your vagina. This can cause your uterus and surrounding blood vessels to feel inflated. Try this relaxing the muscles. It can also make you feel more Zen, it is known for its soothing effects. If you're something like me, you can use a little colder when you're in your period.2. Pink essential oilOk, so this EO is like a cure for all. It can help with so many things — from acting as a natural laxative (progesterone hormone is the main culprit here) to contain emmenagogues (a substance that triggers menstruation, which is large if its periods are irregular). It can also help treat cramps, fatigue and nausea, so a menstruation should have.3. Essential oil for closingNot only smells like Christmas, it is super effective to relieve menstrual pain. It can even help shorten the length of your period (I have never had that job for me but everyone is different) and stop excessive bleeding, known as . It also helps lower high blood pressure. Pretty amazing, huh? 4. Ylang-ylang essential oil If you are stressed AF during your period, this is for you. Ylang-ylang oil calms the brain and central nervous system, facilitating the management of stress and depression.5. Mint essential oil Finally, but not least, mint oil is amazing because it can relieve headaches and inflammation and increase your energy. Fluctuant estrogen, progesterone and testosterone may let you feel fatigued at different points. A little peppermint can help! How to Use Essential Oils for Period Pain If you are ready to try to use essential oils to soothe your period pains, there are a couple of great ways to do this. MassageThe essential oils are beneficial when massaged in the part of your body that is the achy. When I use lavender oil for hemps, I mix it with a carrier oil (Use coconut oil!) and rub it in my abdomen and lower back. This is the most direct route. Aromatherapy When you jump in the shower, sprinkle a few drops of essential oil — or a combination of a few — in the bathtub. The water vapor will mix with the EO and act as an all-natural vaporizer. Ingerences You want to make sure you get essential food grade oils for this. You can put them in your tea, a batch of brownies, or even rice (roz of lavender of love, so good). Side note: No way is Lunette recommending that you should use essential oils or any other type of natural medicine to replace the consultation with your doctor. This should not be taken as medical advice. 9 comments Thank you! And thank you for sharing your story. Many websites have information but I never really know who to believe. The first-hand experience is the best. I used essential oregano oil last month, it helped me a lot. I also took fresh thyme tea and oregano (the thymus needs to sit for 20 min+ in boiled water. Oregano needs to boil for 5 minutes. I found that online and I went to try and my menstruation was much better than in previous months) I'm gonna lavender and give me a test. Thank you very much. Hey, Shon! I'm glad to hear mint oil worked for you! :) Team Lunette Ah... what relief, mint oil did for me... thank you for sharing that pole. This is great! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, Tania. I agree with the clot's recommendation. It definitely helps with pain (take 3 drops in a capsule covered with olive oil). But please be careful to use pepper mint if you have a heavy flow. Disseminating is enough to have a very remarkable impact. Ooh! Thanks for the tip, yova yamini!
